If there was ever a more luxurious brand, I would be hard pressed to name one. From the origin, to the packaging, Tatcha exudes luxuriousness while also maintaining simplicity.

Born from classical Japanese beauty secrets passed down through generations and the idea that less is more, Tatcha focuses on a specialized ingredients that were the basis of original Geisha beauty rituals. A trinity of anti-aging foods, green tea, algae, and rice, are at the core of their products.

I picked up a small kit a few months ago that contained some of Tatcha’s best selling products to give them a try. The items in my kit were the Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, The Water Cream, The Rice Polish in Classic, and The Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. After having used them for a few weeks I think I have a good grasp on them and can tell you whether it is worth the lavish price tag or not.

Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil – $48 – 150ml

This oil is a nice and gentle and works for a first or second cleanse. It cuts through foundation, and eye makeup, including waterproof, easily. It doesn’t leave a film or greasy feeling on the skin and helps add an extra layer of moisture, leaving your skin soft and ready for your next step.

While I have enjoyed using the oil, I will be honest in saying that there are cheaper options out there that do the same job and this is not a must have out of the brands collection for me.

Ingredients: Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquicaprylate, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Algae Extract, Aqua/Water/Eau, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum/Fragrance, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, *Hadasei-3

The Water Cream – $68 – 50ml

This is described as an hydrating, oil free, anti-aging cream packed with nutrients and botanicals, that is best suited for normal to oily skin. The texture of this is a creamy, whipped lotion, that provides an instant relief of moisture when first applied.

However, my skin type is dry, and as this is directed towards other skin types, was not the best fit for me. I would find my skin felt drier earlier in the day with this moisturizer, but as it is not suited for my skin, that is hardly Tatcha’s fault. I would recommend this cream for normal to oily skin, but those with a drier skin type, steer clear.

In regards to cost, this is average for higher end cream, and I can say that a little bit certainly goes a long way, so a jar should last quite some time.

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate*, Dimethicone, Propanediol, Glycerin, Diglycerin, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Gold, Belamcanda Chinensis Root Extract, Rosa Multiflora Fruit Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Mica, Peg-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Phenyl Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disodium Edta, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum/Fragrance, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, *Hadasei-3

Luminous Dewy Skin Mist – $48 – 40ml

A fine mist spray that gives skin the appearance of dewy, healthy glow. This I have used under my makeup and used as a refresher when I started to feel dry during the day. This hydrates and revives the skin bringing it back to life. Best suited for normal to dry and dull skin.

I have thoroughly enjoyed using this mist. It doesn’t diminish the wear of my makeup but makes it look refreshed, as as someone with constant dry skin, I do need a steady source of hydration.

While pricey, I do recommend this. The sprayer on the bottle spritzes such a small, fine mist, that a bottle will last for a long time.

The Rice Polish – $65 – 60g

A water activated foaming enzyme powder that acts as a physical exfoliant.

This is the belle of the ball of all of the Tatcha products that I have tried. I am usually not a fan of physical exfoliants and find them too harsh for my skin, and hardly ever recommend one. This offers a nice exfoliation without the stinging or tearing I have come to expect from other physical exfoliants.

I have been using this twice a week and have noticed an improvement in my complexion. My skin is smoother and softer and I have noticed that many of my facial products are absorbing into my skin better than before. Of all the items I have tried, this is the absolute one that I will repurchase without a doubt and about the only physical exfoliant I recommend. It also comes in different varieties according to your skin type.

Microcrystalline Cellulose, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder, Sodium Lauryl Phosphate, Sodium Palmoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Lauryl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Methylaminopropionate, Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate*, Papain, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Sericin, Hydrolyzed Silk, Propanediol, Dextrin, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Propyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, *Hadasei-3

(*Hadasei-3 is a ingredient listed in all Tatcha products:

Tatcha’s trinity of anti-aging superfoods reveals soft, youthful skin.

Uji Green Tea – Prized throughout Japan as the purest, finest source of Green Tea, this powerful antioxidant-rich botanical from Kyoto is known to detoxify and prevent signs of premature aging.
Okinawa Mozuku Algae – This sea treasure from Japan’s tropical islands is rich in polysaccharides, essential for skin water retention and renewal.
Akita Rice – This rice is known as the finest rice in Japan for its superior taste and quality. It is also a nourishing moisturizer, rich in essential proteins.)

Tatcha is an expensive brand, but offers luxurious products. One of my favorite things about the brand itself is that many of their items are available in trial or travel sizes, which gives you a chance to purchase before committing to a full size product.

While more expensive than your average brand I do recommend them, especially if it falls within your budget. They have quality products, with impressive ingredients, and beautiful packaging, and I can’t wait to try more from them.
